September 2006

Wireless Internet will be here soon! You’ll be able to enjoy the benefit of high-speed access on your own laptops! We are also scheduled to get a new Gateway computer, and possibly a third patron computer!

`                  If you didn’t make it to any of our Summer Reading Programs, you missed some great fun! Our entertainers, Laserface and Krendl the Magician, absolutely wowed the audiences with their great performances.  The Virginia Aquarium ‘Ocean in Motion’ was wonderful to see, and Craft Day, Chalk Art, and Growing Day were all fun. We released the butterflies we hatched, and all the Sea Monkeys are gone, but you can still come by and see the plants that are still growing, and growing, and growing! Thanks to Parks and Rec for all their help, and all the volunteers who helped make things happen.

Did you know that the average response time of the Rescue Squad to Claremont is 45 minutes?  September 30, the Library will sponsor a class in Basic First Aid. We have been trying to set up a First Respondent Course, and this class may help you decide whether you may want to achieve that level. Knowing Basic First Aid can help you, your family, and your neighbors have their needs addressed until the Rescue Squad can get here. Please call the library for details and to sign up for this very important, potentially life saving course!

Our new magazine order has been placed! We were able to increase our order this year, so come on by and discover the new titles available for checkout!

Henhouse Computers in Hopewell will pick up and re-use old computers and computer components to refurbish into working computers for students at reduced rates. If you want to get rid of that old keyboard, that defunct hard drive, or that big monitor that’s just taking up space in the house, bring your computer discards to the library on September 16! They are also sponsoring a drawing for a free computer for a child to be given away September 16 – come by the library for a form.

Programs

Second Saturday Program will be a Back to School picnic! We’ll have entertainment, good food, give-aways, and lots of good info, especially about acquiring computers!  Second Saturday Programs are for any school-aged child, and will be at the library September 9 at 11:30.

Crochet Club, for absolute novices as well as experienced crocheters, will be held September 18 and 25 at 5:00. Virginia Gill teaches class, and supplies are provided if you need them. Please call for details.

September Book Club selection is The Year of Pleasures by Elizabeth Berg. It’s a warm story acknowledging the solace found in ordinary things: a warm bath, good food, the beauty of nature, music, friends, and art. Book Club selections are a venue for exploring new authors and different genres that you may not ordinarily read!

Basic First Aid Class September 30. Time and location to be announced depending on number of participants and availability.

Pick up of old computer components September 16.

StoryTime, for 3 and 4 year olds, will resume in October.  It will still be held on Tuesdays, but the time frame has changed… it will now begin at 9:30 AM
