March 2006

Many thanks to Jim Schaefer of the Richmond Buzz (also Greg Labenz and Greg Schaale) for videotaping our Black History Month program, Memories of Claremont.  The night was packed with historical knowledge provided by Flossye Elliott, Eugene Luster, and Cora Harrison. It was a wonderful evening - we hope to have copies of the video available by next month in case you missed it!

Magazines are now bar-coded. This new feature means that you will know which issues are available for check-out, as well as the fact that you can order magazines from other libraries if we do not stock your favorites! There's quite an inventory here, and they are a great way to make the ferry ride more tolerable!

The addition of a new shelf for videos has not only provided more space in the children's area, but allowed us to separate children's videos and organize items alphabetically.

Remember that all materials you check out can be returned in the NEW drop box in front of the library.

We are still trying to create a reference section with Surry County yearbooks. If you have old annuals that you would like to donate, please let us know!

We want to start a knitter's group! If you have an interest in learning to knit, or maybe just be involved with other people who love to knit, let us know. We need a teacher, too, so if you are willing to share your knowledge, please call.

Visit the library to see our current displays for Women's History Month, National Craft Month and the special section dedicated to the movie, The New World, that was filmed right across the river on the Chickahominy, It not only portrays our history, but also features some of our own Claremont residents as the stars!

The current library newsletter can be viewed, and old newsletters are archived on the town's website, www.claremont-va.org
