April 2006

In conjunction with the Claremont 2007 celebration that will honor Native Virginians and their invaluable contributions to the settlers, the library is providing free birdhouse gourd plants for you to grow, dry, and carve. We will have a special display of gourd crafts at the library May 5 & 6, 2007!

The Blackwater Regional Libraries have sent donations of books to the New Orleans area. The Claremont Library is sending our overstocks to troops in Afghanistan.

April is National Volunteers Month. Names of the wonderful volunteers who contribute so much to our well-being are listed on the exterior board. The time, effort, and donations that these people contribute are truly appreciated!! Thank you!! If you have volunteered and don’t see your name on the board, please let us know so that you can be recognized! If you’re not already a volunteer, please consider joining this distinguished group – there’s always something to do! Information on becoming a “Friend of the Library” is available at the front desk, or by calling Patty Hertzler, President, at 866-8913.

National Library Week is April 2 – 8. Celebrate your freedom to read by coming in and checking out a book or two! We are now showcasing new materials in the front, as well as printing out a list of all new materials acquired by the system. We also have lists of magazines you can order from other libraries.  It’s also fine-free week! Any overdue materials returned this week will incur no fine. There’s always something for everyone at your local public library, and it’s all free!

Mark your calendars! The kick-off and culmination of Summer Reading Programs will be major events that everyone can attend! June 17, the Virginia Aquarium will visit with their mobile aquarium, and August 5 will be the Laserface Show! On July 8th, at the “Claremont Days 2007 Fund Raiser”, there will be a gala affair with fun, different attractions for the whole family!

Don’t forget that Daylight Savings Time starts April 2.
